Our Top Mexican Getaways
There’s absolutely nothing like Mexico. From the amazing weather and beautiful beaches to the artisan crafts and tasty guac, it’s a dream vacay spot year-round. The best part? It’s not only a great place to visit with your significant other, but it’s also an amazing family vacation spot, too.
Looking to head south of the border? We’re right there with you. Read on for our top Mexican getaways!
Oaxaca
Located in the southeastern part of Mexico, Oaxaca is quickly becoming a foodie haven. And while the fare is pretty tasty (think fresh mole and creamy hot chocolate), the beautiful city also boasts plenty of beaches, mountains, jungles, and cultural gems you and your family will enjoy. Whether it’s an architecturally astounding church or a local craft fair, a visit to Oaxaca will be one for the books.
Tulum

Tulum is becoming more popular by the minute. And while the architectural ruins initially made it well known, it also boasts beautiful beaches, a wildlife reserve, water sports, and some of the coolest restaurants and shops in Mexico. Whether it’s an upscale hotel like Coqui Coqui, a rustic spot (think hammocks and solar powered electricity) in the jungle, or a sprawling cliffside vacation home, there’s something for everyone in Tulum. Insider tip: take a day trip to the cenotes for an unforgettable experience.
Zihuatenejo

A small fishing village about 15 minutes from Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo is the perfect place to unwind when you’re in need of some R&R. Laid back and chill, this sleepy town is somewhat untouched by tourists and is one of the safest spots south of the border. The small-town atmosphere, friendly locals, and amazing shopping spots make it a great option for romantic getaways and family vacations alike. We honeymooned at the centrally located Viceroy and experienced some of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve ever seen.
Cabo San Lucas

There’s so much to love about Cabo. Whether it’s the food, fishing, water sports, bars, beaches, or incredible hotels, Cabo is what many So Cal locals call their home away from home. Between amazing hotels like the One & Only Palmilla, Esperanza Resort, or the all-new Cape Hotel, there are family friendly and couple-friendly options that make vacationing a dream. If you’re a foodie, Flora Farms is an essential on our list. Stop by for fresh jam, carrot margaritas (they’re delish!), and other farm-to-table specialties.
San Miguel de Allende

Located about 3.5 hours north of Mexico City, San Miguel de Allende is becoming a go-to destination for art and design lovers. Between the stunning architecture and seemingly constant festivals, there’s always something to see and something to do. Traveling with your partner? Opt for one of the many gorgeous hotels in town. Heading to town with family or friends? Rent a large hacienda – many come complete with a chef.
