Unique, comfortable, and the epitome of So Cal beach culture, Feather 4 Arrow pieces embody the laid back vibe every cool kid should rock. We were lucky enough to chat with Feather 4 Arrow’s owner and designer Jaime Riese about the story behind the line, how she stays inspired, and more.
Tell us a little about the story behind the line.
We are a west coast brand that is influenced by Southern California beach culture. I started Feather 4 Arrow because, at the time, it was hard to find unique kids clothing that fit my lifestyle.
When did you launch and what was the first year like?
We first launched our Etsy shop in 2012 because I wanted to see if my designs would sell. Etsy was very successful for me, so I knew it was time to move on to retail.
What are your most popular pieces?
The “Love My Tribe” graphic has become pretty big on Etsy - I’ve found so many people who have recreated the design. Also, anything Mermaid-related is a hit.
What inspires new designs?
We are definitely inspired by the California surf culture. I try to come up with graphics that I would want to wear and then make them fun for kids.
How do you come up with the phrases for your tees? They’re so much fun.
I’m always writing down ideas and phrases that come to mind. When it’s time to start designing a season, I pick the ideas I like the best and create art around that idea.
What differentiates Feather 4 Arrow from other kids clothing lines?
We are definitely a beach brand. That’s what inspires me. I’ve been told before that I am too beachy, but I’ve realized that you have to be true to who you are. You can’t be all things to all people. When I stick to what I know, that’s when my product is the best it can be.
You sell clothing for women now, too. Was that a natural progression?
We just started a new women’s line called Golden Daze. I’m so excited about this new adventure. Golden Daze consists of fun graphic tees and elevated basics.
Who is the Feather 4 Arrow child?
Your typical beach kid.
Who is the Feather 4 Arrow parent?
The Feather 4 Arrow parent is the parent who wants to dress their kids in comfortable, fun clothes that fit their lifestyle.
What are your favorite fabrics to work with?
I use the softest fabrics I can find, which is what we have become known for. I know kids don’t want to wear rough, scratchy t-shirts. We manufacture everything in Downtown Los Angeles.
Is there a certain clothing line you admire?
The one brand that inspired us from the beginning was Mini and Maximus. I’ve always loved their creative collections.
What's next for Feather 4 Arrow?
We just created Holiday 2016 and Spring 2017 collections that we are really excited about. I feel that we keep getting better with each season, so stay tuned!
